How Can I Save Money for My Doula Services?
How can I make doula services affordable for my family? A pretty simple question, and I get asked this a lot! All day everyday, we as Americans live a life of excess. We have what we need, in fact we have more than we need! Many of us have money sucking habits!
Cut the Eating Out
According to a recent survey: 58% of adult Americans eat out once a week. I’m sure the number of us who eat out at least once a month are even greater. Eating in and cooking is a healthier option, and will save you money.
Brew Your own Coffee
The average cup of coffee costs $5. If you get a cup of coffee even 3 times a week, you are spending $780 dollars a year. If you get a cup of coffee every work day, it’s more like $1,300!
Create a Budget
Come up with a system to find out what your basic needs really are, so you can see how much money you are making, and what you are spending it on. Even if you have the tightest budget in the world, it’s good to see where all of your hard earned money is going.
Save With a Purpose in Mind
Instead of putting money away in an emergency fund, or rainy day savings, save with specific idea in mind. You will be more motivated to put money away if it has a use for you!
Make it Automatic
Automatically withdraw funds from your checkings to your savings account. Treat it like another bill!
Sell Things on Etsy or on Your Local Garage Sale Sites
We all have extra clothing, accessories, and kitchenware that we do not need! So even if you aren’t crafty, you can sell something!
Make Gifts Instead of Buying Them
There are plenty of awesome ideas on pinterest for use bath salts, sugar scrubs, and delicious treats. Your loved ones will appreciate a special homemade gift from you, especially if they know you are putting money towards something special.
Ask Your Family to Gift you Part of Your Doula Services
For your baby shower, ask your family to help pay for your doula services! We get unnecessary things at our baby showers! Too many clothes, a wipe warmer, a special trash can for dirty diapers, a swing, 3 different types of seats and exersaucers! Try and figure out what items will really be useful, and what items will cause a lot of clutter for you!
If you have already paid for doula services, ask them about buying a few postpartum shifts for a little extra help transitioning after baby arrives.
Talk to Your Doulas About a Payment Plan
We are more than happy to work with any financial situation! We can find a way to take small payments until your services are paid for!
If you meet with your doula and set up a payment plan at 12 weeks, you can have your services paid off by 36 weeks. You would only have to pay about $35 a week! (7 cups of coffee, or one night eating out!)
