Acid Reflux
Did you now that babies can get acid reflux and heartburn too? Acid reflux is more common in tongue tied babies! But it can happen in any newborn. Doctors can prescribe heartburn medication for infants. Some parents have success treating Acid Reflux with chiropractic care.
Ear Infection
Ear infections are common in teething babies, but can happen at any age. Chiropractic care can help resolve ear infections. Persistent ear infections may indicate a need for allopathic treatment with and Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist Doctor.
Overstimulated and Overloaded
Is your baby over stimulated? Babies have a hard time adjusting to life on the outside! Too much activity can overload baby and cause baby to cry. Learn more about overstimulated infants here.
Too Hot, Too Cold
Baby's nervous system is immature! It's difficult for a baby to maintain a good temperature. It's very easy for them to get too cold or overheated. Makes sure that baby is a snuggly good temperature if they are crying!
Something Hard to Notice
A small string or hair can be wrapped around baby's toe! An article of clothing may be too heavy or too scratchy! Some babies are even bothered by the scent of certain laundry cleaners, or by clothing tags. The only way baby can share their disapproval is by crying.
Gas and Tummy Pain
Is baby gassy or constipated? Tummy issues in babies are fairly common! Especially in formula fed babies. Try doing tiny, gentle bicycles with babies legs to encourage movement in baby's bowels. Massaging baby's low back and tummy in a clockwise motion is also helpful for tummy pains!
Colic
Sometimes babies cry for no reason. Crying more than three hours a day, more than three days a week is considered "Colic." Gripe Water or gas drops may help a colicky infant! Bodywork and Chiropractic care can also be helpful in easing pain and calming a newborn.
Needs to Burp
It isn't always necessary to burp! But if baby often cries after eating, it may be needed. Sometimes babies swallow air while they eat. This can cause discomfort in their stomach.
Wants to be Held
Baby spent the first 9 months of their life being held and cuddled close to mom's heart. It's reasonable and understandable for baby to want to stay close to parents after birth. Sometimes the safety and security of mom and dad is all baby needs! Not to mention all the lovely benefits of skin to skin!
Dirty Diaper
This one is a little obvious, but totally necessary to mention! However, It seems like as soon as you change baby...THEY POOP. Make sure to check again if baby is fussy!
Sick
Babies have no way to tell you they are sick and in pain. EXCEPT for crying. Sometimes persistent crying can be indicative of an illness.
Sleepy
Being overly sleepy is a thing! Not just for you, but for baby! A baby that is overtired can cry without sleeping.
